The Reaching Achievement & Committed to Excellence (R.A.C.E.) PLUS: Professionalism and Leadership for Undergraduate Student Success Program will be a great opportunity for you to get the tools and to engage with alumni, industry partners, and the community (community engagement); to become career ready (student success); and to form a supportive cohort (supportive environment). This program is a collaboration between the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the College of Business, the College of Engineering, and the Office of Admissions. What to Expect: • Summer Bridge: Training, information sessions provided prior to Great Move-In Day, with a session also provided for parents. This will take place August 16, 2020 and will include team building, workshops to prepare participants for program expectations. • Connections class for sophomores: Course content to have hands-on application of career readiness information, writing research papers, and other matters. (Fall semester only.) This class will be a sophomore-level section of the current University Connections class. All participants will be enrolled in the section. • Minority Recruitment Event: Recruitment day for minority students, both undergraduate and graduate (fall semester). In collaboration with Admissions and with the Multicultural Affairs Alumni Advisory Council (MAAAC), an event will be planned on Friday during the week of Homecoming. Prospective undergraduate students will be invited to campus on Friday for sessions on campus life, a tour of the campus, engagement with faculty, discussions with Tech alumni of color, and class visitations. • Career Readiness Certificate: Offered by the Center for Career Development; a requirement for cohort. (Fall and Spring semesters). This program component utilizes College of Business workshops integrated with workshops offered by the Center for Career Development. Students can earn a Career Readiness certificate by attending a set number of workshops. • Graduate school readiness and/or undergraduate research: Attend a conference, a research event, Engineering Ambassador Network training, GEM Grad Lab, or other approved event. • Banquet: (Spring semester). This is an event led by students where students invite alumni and industry partners to campus for a networking event. All students who fully participate will receive a stipend of $450 that will be disbursed in 2 payments at the end of the fall and spring semesters if the complete the program requirements.
